"Papier Mache' craft is said to be brought to India by a sufi saint Mir Sayyid Ali Hamadani from Persia in the 14th century. This craft is known for light weight, well finished decorative and functional objects hand crafted from paper pulp also known as Sakhtsazi.
These products are adorned by intricate designs (Naqashi) inspired by rich flaura and fauna from the region which are hand painted and lacquer finished for its rich appeal.
This craft is protected under the Geographic Indication Act 1999 of Government of India, and was registered by the Controller General of Patents Designs and Trademarks during the period from April 2011 to March 2012 under the title "Kashmir Paper Machie"
